Sanitary Sewer Overflow Reported on April 26, 2022 at 1300 Sanders to 1300 Cherokee Street
Around 11:30 a.m. April 26, Water Pollution Control (WPC) staff were informed of a creek that looked gray. Staff responded to the information and determined that sewage was in fact leaking from manhole no. 1654 into the storm runoff which runs to Three-Mile Creek. Staff removed blockage in the City main ending bypass. City staff used a jet truck with pumps to clean runoff and creek, and pumped sewage from creek back into sanitary sewer system. WPC estimated 9,000 gallons of wastewater was released from the system. The affected areas will be from the 1300 block of Sanders Street to the 1300 block of Cherokee Street. City staff have put creek-contaminated signs in the area to advise citizens to stay out of area. City staff will be testing samples for E. coli from the creek. When levels are back to normal contaminated creek signs will be removed.
