Sanitary Sewer Overflow October 22, 2024: 736 Santa Fe Street Transparency Report
Around 9:04 a.m. on October 22, Water Pollution Control staff were informed of a sewer smell in the Old Creek Court area. Water Pollution Control staff responded to the call and checked the area and found sewage in the creek at Santa Fe and Broadway Terrace. City checked mains in the area and found the sanitary main surcharged between manholes 0890-0963. City staff cleared the blockage in the main and the leak into the creek stopped. City staff cleaned the creek by pumping the sewage from the creek back into the sanitary main and flushing creek with fresh water. Staff then inspected the sanitary main between manholes 0890-0963 to see where sewage was leaking. City staff found crack in the city sanitary main. Next steps will be to have the sanitary main repaired between manholes 0890-0963. Water Pollution Control estimated 7,000 gallons of wastewater was released from the system. The affected area will be from the 2501 Broadway Terrace southeast towards 2800 Maple Ave. City staff put creek contaminated sign out and would ask citizens to stay away from creek until testing has been returned and E-coli levels are normal.
