The mission of the Leavenworth Fire Department is to preserve the safety and well-being of our citizens and visitors to Leavenworth. It is the Firefighters' responsibility to be prepared both mentally and physically to meet the challenges of this mission. Firefighting is the protection of life and property by combating, extinguishing and preventing fire. Firefighters work a regular 24-hour shift, which include weekends and holidays.

Qualifications
- Be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment
- Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent
- Posses a valid driver’s license at time of appointment
- Firefighter I & II Certification at time of application
- Valid KS Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Cert
- Current Fire Service Entrance Exam (FSEE) within the last 24 months with a score of 70% or greater
- Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification taken within the last 12 months
- Ability to pass physical examination including drug screen and oral interview
Firefighters are trained for technical rescues, suppressing fires, public education and daily hands on training. Firefighters attend and participate in formal and phased intensive training and instruction sessions in firefighting methods, first aid, and other fire department activities. They participate in the department’s physical fitness program.
