Park History:

The City acquired the land for Hawthorn Park from Joseph and Edgar Chamberlin in 1938. An 1876 map of Leavenworth shows the D.C. Hawthorn nursery existed at the park site, thus the park was named Hawthorn Park. Restrooms were built in 2017.

In June 2021, Parks staff and the City Commission discussed a splash pad project to be located somewhere in one of our existing parks.  Hawthorn Park was selected and on January 25, 2022, the City Commission unanimously approved the construction of a 55' by 60' splash pad. Work began in April 2022. The Splash Pad opened to the public in 2023. It is a water feature available for public use with no additional fees.
