Park History:
Bob Dougherty Park, formerly Northside Park, was acquired by the City in 1937. Around that same time, a swimming pool was built in the park. The park was re-named Bob Dougherty Park in the mid-1980s in honor of the former Mayor and City Commissioner, one of five black men who have served as mayor as of 2020. In the late 1990s, the City remodeled the park, removing the pool and bathhouse. The renovation project removed and replaced the basketball and restroom facilities and the playground equipment. Kiowa Street through the park was also removed. The current park consists of approximately three acres and connects to North Esplanade Park. In 2021, play equipment was replaced with all new equipment.
