Fourth Street/Kansas Highway 7 completed on schedule

Fourth Street’s $3.1 million renovation is nearly complete and scheduled to open today, November 15. Yet to be finished are three new traffic signals that will be installed at a later date.
Flashing stop signs have been placed at the side streets downtown on a temporary basis. While the stop signs are in place, traffic along Fourth Street/Kansas Highway 7 will not stop. This a temporary situation and is subject to change.
As always when there is a change, the Leavenworth Police Department recommends extra caution. Police encourage drivers and pedestrians to pay more attention as our community learns the new traffic patterns.
"We also ask everyone to be patient as we work hard to cross the finish line," said Pat Kitchens, Leavenworth Police Chief.
The street construction included a 2-inch mill and overlay of new asphalt, new stormwater structures, new curbs and gutters and new sidewalks. The lanes will reduce from four lanes to three lanes, with the center lane now a dedicated left-turn lane.
