Development in the upstream basin of the tributary to 5 Mile Creek has changed the character of the stormwater runoff in the area of Independence Ct. The changes in the stormwater runoff, have made a channel that is deeper, wider, and one that meanders more than when the area was undeveloped. The changes have created a stream bank that is unstable, allowing erosion into the back yards of the properties to the north and south of 1421 Independence Ct. The bank erosion is now to a point that it is jeopardizing a city sewer main that runs along the backside of the properties.
The project will clear nuisance trees and brush, install rock ditch checks, reinforce the stream banks in critical areas with large rip-rap, and re-vegetate the disturbed area. The sewer line will be protected from erosion and this also protects the nearby homes.
