Performing Arts Center
The Performing Arts Center in downtown Leavenworth is managed by the City's Parks and Recreation Department. The River City Community Players provide the Leavenworth area community with unique theatrical experiences in an early 20th century Art Deco Theater that has been modified for live theatrical productions. Currently the RCCP shows four main stage productions a year with two being musicals and two being non-musicals productions. There are also two youth productions produced throughout the seasons in addition to an annual Christmas show.
WHO WE ARE
The River City Community Players is an active community theater based in Leavenworth and was founded by Verneil Searles. They began operating under the auspices of the Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department in 1977 at the the historic Hollywood Theater. The old Hollywood Theater would then become known as the Leavenworth Performing Arts Center where our Community Theater productions fun to this day, with the RCCP having been the principal occupant of the theater.
OUR HISTORY
Placed on the National Register of Historic Places, this 1938 theater features the later phase of the Art Deco movement. Formally the Hollywood Theater, this structure entertained the public on its silver screen for nearly 40 years. In 1977, it was donated to the City by Durwood Inc.
