Hometown Proud: Dr. John Leavitt

Dr. John L. Leavitt was born and raised in Leavenworth and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1974. He received his undergraduate degree in music education from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas, a master's degree in music performance and composition from Wichita State University, and the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Conducting from The Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  

Leavitt has a successful career as a composer, conductor, teacher, pianist, whose performed in more than 30 countries across the globe. He received the W.A. Young Award for teaching excellence, in recognition of his career at Friends University in Wichita, KS.
