First City of Kansas Seal
Mural and Statue Safari Stop #3
The seal of the First City of Kansas, founded in 1854, nearly seven years before the Kansas Territory was declared an official state. Found on the eastern side of the River City Community Players historic Art Deco theater, this mural was painted in 1978 by local artist Michael Young. It's a tribute to America's early westward expansion and Leavenworth's contributions to two historic byways: The Oregon and Santa Fe Trails.
